Foundations of Faith
The Bible
We believe that the Bible — Old and New Testament — is the inspired and infallible Word of God. It is the only supreme authority on matters of faith and life. Every doctrine and practice in our church is examined and confirmed by Scripture.
God
We believe in the one living and true God, eternal, all-knowing, all-powerful, and ever-present. He exists in three persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — equal in nature, glory, and authority.
Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ is truly God and truly human. He was incarnate by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice for our sins, rose bodily on the third day, and ascended into heaven. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead.
Salvation
We believe that people are sinful by nature and cannot save themselves. Salvation is entirely God’s gift — by grace alone, through faith alone, because of Christ alone. It cannot be earned by good works, rituals, or traditions.
The Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He convicts people of sin, grants new birth to believers, dwells in them, and sanctifies them, conforming them to the image of Christ.
The Church
We believe in the one, holy, universal, and apostolic Church — comprised of all true believers of all times and places. The local church is the visible body of Christ, gathered for worship, the study of the Word, prayer, and mutual care.
Like all true Christians before us, we confess:
We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages: Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one essence with the Father, through whom all things were made.
Who, for us humans and for our salvation, came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and became man;
and was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, suffered, and was buried;
and rose again on the third day, in accordance with the Scriptures;
and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father;
and will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end.
And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of life, who proceeds from the Father, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy, universal, and apostolic Church.
We confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the age to come. Amen.
